Let's talk about mistakes you can make when applying a menstrual disc
You inserted the disc and thought everything was okay... but it turned out something went wrong? Don't worry, and most importantly, give yourself another chance for a comfortable period! Check what you can improve if blood leaks or you don't feel completely comfortable.
Firstly, remember that there is no way for the disc to go too deep! It's anatomically impossible because the vagina is a closed pathway. Therefore, during insertion, you don't have to worry about pushing it in too far.
If you have trouble with initial insertion, watch the instructional video available on our website (you'll find the QR code on the packaging). However, if you need support or have any questions, feel free to write to us on IG @hi.bestie.pl or email us at hello@hibestie.pl.
Let's move on to the most concerning issue – leakage.
If the disc leaks, it's 99% likely that it was inserted incorrectly. It was probably inserted vertically and didn't settle into the vaginal fornix. Try inserting the disc at an angle towards your tailbone. Forget your habits associated with inserting a cup/tampon. It's different with a disc. 😊
Leakage during bowel movements is normal and has a name: autodumping. It involves partial emptying of the disc due to muscle pressure. After using the toilet, you just need to push the disc back onto the anatomical shelf, and you're good to go.
Autodumping does not occur during urination. If you notice leakage then, it might mean you're tensing your muscles while peeing.
If you're worried about blood leaking, you can do a confidence test. After insertion, try to feel your cervix through the disc's cup. It will feel like you're touching a soft nose. If you feel it, it means the disc is embracing it, and blood will flow into it. If not, try reinserting the disc.
If you feel the disc's tail in the vaginal canal and it bothers you, you can shorten it. Check our Instagram profile to see how to do it.
However, if the tail is protruding and blood isn't leaking, it likely means you have a shorter vaginal canal. If you want the tail not to protrude, you can fold it.
